▪ Who was King Midas?
version narrated by Ovid in "Metamorphosis" Dionysus said that one day he lost sight of his old master and step-father, Silenus.
The old satyr had lingered to drink wine and get drunk was lost in the woods, until he was found by a couple of peasants Phrygians, who brought him to their king, Midas .
Midas recognized Silenus and treated him generously, hosted in his palace for ten days and nights, while the satyr entertained the king and his friends with stories and songs.
The eleventh day Midas, Silenus back to Dionysus in Lydia, but happy to have rediscovered his old mentor, the king offered him any gift he wanted.
Midas, then asked him the power to transform into gold "everything he touched."
The king, however, he soon realized that in this way could not even feed themselves, because all the food he touches turns to gold instantly. Realizing that his greed for money would lead him to death, begged Dionysus to take away that power. God, pity the repentance of the king listened to the request.
